IN THE SPOTLIGHT | GUCCI MANE

Radric Davis was born February 12, 1980. He is better known by his stage name Gucci Mane and is an American rapper. Davis was born in Birmingham, Alabama, and later moved with his single mothers to Atlanta. He enjoyed writing poetry as a child, and began rapping at the age of 14.

The album peaked at #10 on the Billboard Top Rap Albums chart and #20 on the Top R&B/Hip Hop Albums chart.Gucci Mane is an artist striving for that balance, volatility versus musicality. Controversy, including a feud with former collaborator Young Jeezy, has grabbed the headlines, with insufficient regard paid to his considerable mic skills, raw talent, and business acumen. Gucci is looking to wrest his name from public speculation and let his own words do the talking.

“Hard to Kill” followed in 2006 and included the hit single “Freaky Gurl.” The song peaked at #12 on the Billboard Hot Rap Tracks chart, #19 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, and at #62 on the Hot 100 Singles chart. “Hard to Kill” reached #6 on the Billboard Top Rap Albums chart and #13 on the Top R&B/Hip Hop Albums chart. he official remix of “Freaky Gurl,” featuring Ludacris and Lil Kim, was included on his 2007 commercial debut album “Back to the Trap House,” on So Icey, Asylum and Atlantic Records. His third independent album, “Trap-a-Thon” was released in 2007 and peaked at #7 on the Billboard Independent Albums chart and #9 on the Top R&B/Hip Hop Albums chart.

In 2009 he made 17 guest appearances including the remixes of “Boom Boom Pow” by Black Eyed Peas, “Obsessed” by Mariah Carey and “5 Star Chick” by Yo Gotti and made a guest appearance on Mario's “Break Up.” Gucci Mane signed to Warner Bros. Records in May 2009. That same year he served a year-long prison term for violating probation for his 2005 assault conviction. A fourth independent album, “Murder Was the Case” was released in 2009 and debuted at #23 on the Billboard 200 as well as #3 on the Independent Albums chart and #4 on the Top R&B/Hip Hop Albums chart. Two singles were released off the album, “Stoopid” which peaked at #66 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart and “Runnin' Back.” Gucci Mane's second major label studio album “The State vs. Radric Davis” was released under the label Warner Bros. Records in 2009. The album went to #1 on the Billboard Top Rap Albums chart, #2 on the Top R&B/Hip Hop Albums chart and #10 on the Billboard 200 Albums chart. “The Appeal: Georgia's Most Wanted,” his third studio album, was released in 2010 on 1017 Brick Squad Records, Warner Bros. Records and Asylum Records. The album was issued just after the Atlanta rapper's released from incarceration.
